February Vacation Math Camp 6th & 7th graders, Salem Public Schools SY2024-2025 INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY
Salem Public Schools will host a 4-day February Vacation Academy from February 20th - February 23rd. The Camp will meet from 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM. We are looking for math teachers, paraprofessionals/ student success advisors for the vacation program from 8:00 to 12:30 PM.
The focus of the camp will be 1) addressing gaps in foundational mathematics skills; 2) promoting social-emotional learning; and 3) providing additional math and science enrichment for students. With the support of a paraprofessional, teachers will provide focus lessons, hands-on experiences, and small-group differentiated instruction. Class sizes will be capped at 10-13 students.
Site Coordinator Grades 6th & 7th
What You’ll Do:
This position is an excellent opportunity for a highly effective teacher or math coach who enjoys coordination, and communicating with families, and teaching staff to foster a setting to help students develop math skills. The camp's primary goal will be to build students’ capacity to manage the demands of grade-level mathematics tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Attend a virtual training session before the camp to learn about the curriculum, instructional materials, and program logistics.
- Liaise with the schools’ City Connects Coordinators to understand the needs of individual students and ensure their behavioral, academic, and social needs are met during the vacation program
- Support initial outreach to families to communicate the program logistics- week of 2/12-2/16
- Work with the coaches to group students according to academic data such as STAR, week of 2/12-2/16
- Support and craft arrival and departure routines during program week
- Manage operations such as transportation, lunch & recess, enrichment blocks, and student schedules
- Supervise educators and enrichment providers on-site to ensure high-quality implementation
- Communicate with families daily to share information such as transportation, program changes, behavioral challenges, and/or positive feedback
- Perform additional administrative tasks assigned by the supervisor

Teachers (2 teachers grades 6th& 7th)
What You’ll Do:
This position is an excellent opportunity for highly effective math teachers who have demonstrated a track record of excellent student outcomes, and enjoy working in a small group setting to develop math skills while addressing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The camp's primary goal will be to build students’ capacity to manage the demands of grade-level mathematics tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Teach mathematics using the curriculum and other appropriate learning activities reflecting a deep understanding of the state frameworks for grades 6 & 7.
- Attend a virtual training session before the camp to learn about the curriculum, instructional materials, and program logistics.
- Review student data to match appropriate lessons to student needs.
- Prioritize four accessibility strategies to meet the needs of multilingual learners and students with disabilities: 1) a welcoming environment; 2) comprehensible input; 3) meaningful interactions; and 4) adapted text.
- Collaborate with the paraprofessional to provide differentiated small-group instruction within the classroom using the SPS curriculum and instructional materials.
- Share February Vacation program data with classroom teachers and math/science coaches.
- Provide students with timely feedback addressing any concerns around academic performance
- Implement IEP accommodations and modifications
- Provide supports that make lessons accessible to MLs
- Demonstrated ability to support student learning and growth in mathematics
Compensation: Teacher Stipend 6th& 7th grade $1250 stipend

Support Staff (2 support staff 6th-7th grade) Open to paraprofessionals, tutors, Family Engagement Facilitators, and other educators who enjoy working with young children.
What you will do:
This position is an excellent opportunity for a paraprofessional to work with an experienced teacher. The academy's primary goal will be to build student capacity to manage the demands of grade-level mathematics tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher in implementing the daily curriculum objectives through assistance in small groups and individualized instruction of students with and without disabilities at various grade levels
- Assist the teacher in promoting an environment that is conducive to learning and provides for the social and emotional growth of all students
- Escort and assist students as needed throughout the building, supervise snacks, transitions, breaks, and arrival and dismissal
- Follow the direction of the supervisor/teacher and assure the safety of students at all times
- Step in to assist with general classroom operations and supervision, as needed
- Support recess or lunch duty
Compensation: Support Staff 6th-7th grade $650-$750 stipend depending on role.
