Overall Responsibility
- Safe preparation and handling of food

Key Areas of Responsibility
- Efficient, clean and safe preparation, serving and clean-up of daily meals
- Working knowledge and effective use of the POS system
- Able to prepare receipts for deposits
- Ability to show flexibility in tasks - serving, food prep, running POS system, clean up
Performance Responsibility
Performs efficiently and to the best of his/her ability the duties assigned in relation to the preparation of food, serving of food, cleaning all areas of the kitchen, or other assigned duties, which may include operation of a cash register, in the time allotted.
- Reports to work as scheduled, sign the posted timesheet and remain on the job until dismissal by the manager.
- The work locations will vary around the city. Flexibility on start and end times is mandatory and as needed.
- You must be available for the period Monday through Friday, 6:30am - 1:30pm. Up to 19.5 hours per week. Location and time will vary depending on district needs.
- Maintains pleasant working relations with fellow employees by showing consideration for others: patience, respect, self-control.
- Follows all policies of the School Committee and instructions of the Kitchen Manager relating to safety measures, sanitation practices, personal standards, work techniques, and methods of performing duties.
- Performs duties in the safe preparation and handling of food, cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and facilities, and serving of food.

- Cleans kitchen equipment and work area including floor.
- Sets up serving counter.
- Serves food on line after receiving instructions as to portion size.
- Washes dishes, trays, flatware, pots, pans and utensils.
- Washes dining room tables.
- Unpacks supplies and assists with stocking dry storage shelves and/or refrigerator shelves.
- Operates equipment properly, maintaining safety standards at all times.
- Performs duties as assigned by the kitchen manager.
When asked to step in as kitchen manager
- As Kitchen Manager of our school, you will oversee all aspects of the kitchen operations to ensure efficient and effective food service (breakfast and lunch).
- You will be responsible for managing and directing team members, ordering, food preparation, inventory management as well as but not limited to compliance with health and safety regulations
- Your goal will be to maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene, and customer satisfaction while operating within budgetary constraints
- Plan and execute nutritious and appealing meals that meet the current USDA guidelines and preferences of high school students
- Supervise kitchen staff, including the Kitchen Cook, and guidance as needed
- Coordinate food preparation and cooking activities to ensure timely service and minimize waste
- Monitor inventory levels of food and supplies and place orders as necessary to maintain sufficient stock. Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including proper food handling, sanitation, and cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in school food service and incorporate them into kitchen operations
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Serve Safe Certification (or equivalent) or willing to become certified within 2 months of hire.
- Strong sense of customer service.
- Computer knowledge.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Must be flexible.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
- Sense of pride in serving healthy, nutritious meals.
- Enjoy working with children.
- Ability to take direction.
