Job Description:
Salem Public Schools is seeking a Middle School Teacher to further develop the school's programming for career pathways, with a particular focus in culinary arts and early childhood education. The successful candidate will shape the further development of an exploratory course for 8th graders linking individual interests with career goals and professional identities. This position will be in collaboration with Salem High School Career and Technical Education Department and develop age-appropriate project-based lessons to educate students on the vocational programming and Project Lead the Way courses available at the high school and how they can be part of the student's educational experience leading to post-secondary or careers after graduation.
This position will be responsible for adapting curricula to create a safe, responsive, and empowering learning environment to help students build basic understanding and skills within culinary arts and/or early childhood education. We seek an individual with relative work experience and/or experience working with adolescents.
This role will be part time with options for how to create pathway options for our students. Our goal is to maximize what’s possible for our students, so we would love to have someone who is available 4 days a week from 12:45-3:15. We can also be flexible within those times. Classes meet at the following times:
- 7th Grade A: Monday/Thursday 2:03-3:15
- 7th Grade B: Tuesday/Friday 12:48-2:01
- 8th Grade A: Monday/Thursday 12:48-2:01
- 8th Grade B: Tuesday/Friday 2:03-3:15
Finally, if we can find the right candidate, we might have the opportunity to mentor students from Salem High School who might work with the middle school students.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Technology Education, Science, or Computer Science required
- 3 years of Middle School teaching experience preferred
- Multilingual candidates preferred
- Experience in urban education or CTE programs preferred
- Current authorization to work in the United States
Reports to: School Principal
Work Year: This is a school-year position.
Compensation: Salary is determined by the Salem Teachers Union (STU) collective bargaining agreement. This position is a part-time teaching position (<19 hours per week)
