Salem Public Schools Special Education Extended School Year Teachers and  Support Staff (ESY) Program

POSITIONS:

Preference is given to applicants who can work the full 5 weeks. Though sites are open to other candidates.

 

Program Teacher (up to 25)  Each teacher is responsible for the teaching and learning of all assigned students.  The teacher is responsible for preparing lessons, delivering specialized instruction/implementing the IEP, and overseeing classroom management.  The teacher is responsible for student safety across the school environment.  Additional relevant duties at the discretion of the site administrator. Teachers are paid at the contract teacher’s rate ($45) with 30 mins of prep each day.

 

Moderate Special Education Teacher/Liaison (1)

This position acts as a liaison between inclusion summer programs and special education. This position may include Services are provided to students individually or in small groups across all district summer programs, including assignments that require on-site services at the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club programs. Reliable transportation required. Additional relevant duties at the discretion of the site administrator.  Amount of days/hours may be reduced/increased due to student demand. Teachers are paid at the contract teacher’s rate ($45) with 30 mins of prep each day.

 

Reading Instructor (1):  The reading instructor provides specialized reading instruction according to students’ IEP.  Services are provided to students individually or in small groups across all district summer programs, including assignments that require on-site services at the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club programs. Reliable transportation required. Additional relevant duties at the discretion of the site administrator.  Amount of days/hours may be reduced/increased due to student demand. Prep time should be arranged with site supervisor. Instructors are paid at the contract teacher’s rate ($45) with 30 mins of prep each day.

 

Speech Pathologist/SLPA (up to 2):  Each Speech Pathologist provides speech therapy and pragmatic language support to the program as a whole.  The SLP provides individualized instruction to small groups or in a 1:1 setting according to the assigned students’ IEPs.  Additional relevant duties at the discretion of the site administrator.  Speech Pathologists are paid at the contract rate ($45 per hour) with 30 mins of prep each day. SLPAs are paid at contract hourly rate plus 30 mins of prep each day. Prep time should be arranged with site supervisor. 

 

Occupational Therapist/COTA (2):  The Occupational Therapist provides sensorimotor intervention and support to the program as a whole. The OT provides individualized instruction to small groups or in a 1:1 setting according to the assigned students’ IEPs.  Additional relevant duties at the discretion of the site administrator.  Occupational Therapists are paid the teacher’s rate. COTAs are paid at contract rate plus 30 mins of prep each day. 

 

 

School Adjustment Counselor (2):  Each school adjustment counselor supports social-emotional learning, provides crisis intervention and assures student safety for the program as a whole.  The school adjustment counselor provides individualized services and social skills instruction to students according to their IEPs and facilitates communication with families.  Additional relevant duties at the discretion of the site administrator.  School Adjustment Counselors are paid the teacher’s rate. Amount of days may be reduced due to student demand. 

 

BCBA (1):  The BCBA provides behavioral support and ABA consultation to the program as a whole, individualized services to students according to their IEPs, and works collaboratively with staff to ensure student safety across the school environment. Reliable transportation required. Additional relevant duties at the discretion of the site administrator.  The BCBA is paid at the teacher’s rate.

 

 

Nurse (2):  Each nurse is responsible for meeting the routine and emergency medical needs of all students within the building. They will communicate clearly with families and staff about student medical needs and support their health and safety for the duration of the program.  Each nurse must consult with District nurses to provision medication for students at their program site by collecting medication from families and/or the student’s home school. Additional relevant duties at the discretion of the site administrator.  Nurses are paid at the teacher’s rate.

 

Assistive Technology Specialist (1) *1 day/week:  The Assistive Technology Specialist works with program staff to operationalize students’ technology during the summer program.  The AT Specialist is responsible for the collection, distribution and return of students’ AT devices to/from their home school to/from the various District summer programs. Reliable transportation required. Additional relevant duties at the discretion of the site administrator.  The AT Specialist is paid $45/hour for up to 25 hours.

 

Site Administrator:  (2)  The site administrator oversees student registration and enrollment, the staff hiring process and ordering of materials for their program.  They communicate with the transportation and food services departments, supervise staff, monitor attendance, and communicate with families.  The site administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program and for ensuring a positive social and learning experience for all students.  The site administrator reports to the Executive Director of Pupil Personnel Services. This position is paid at a different rate depending on level of responsibility.
