School Bus Monitor

5 hours per day/5 days a week
Pay Rate: $14.67 per hour

Summary

Assist the School Bus Driver in the daily monitoring of student travel to and from school in a safe manner and in accordance with the Transportation Department and the Salem Public Schools policies.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for reviewing Students’ Transportation Plans
• Assists students entering and exiting school bus safely
• Communicates pick-up and drop-off times to parents
• Monitors health and safety with students with medical issues
• Secures young or physically challenged students’ seat-belts and wheelchairs
• Communicates with parents and school staff in a professional and courteous manner
• Maintains discipline of students on the school bus (i.e keeps students from leaning out windows, staying in the seat, respecting other riders, and using appropriate language)
• Ability to write incident reports and correspondence as necessary
• Must be familiar with the route to aid in event of substitute driver
• Perform other related tasks as assume other related responsibilities as may be assigned by the Transportation Office

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/equivalent 
• First preference will be given to individuals willing to become a CDL License school bus driver
• Should be willing to drive as needed
• Current authorization to work in the United States
