Job Overview:
The Student Intern (Classroom Assistant) will support students in the Life Skills Program at Horace Mann Laboratory School and/or Collins Middle School. As an intern, you will assist the teacher in a variety of ways in the classroom as well as throughout the school environment. You will provide support for class activities as well as support at lunch and/or recess. The hours within a day and days of the week may vary and will be scheduled on an individual basis with the intern and the classroom teacher. This internship will be for up to 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe environment: Follow the classroom rules, procedures and expectations given by the teacher to assist with providing a safe environment for all learners.
- Provide support: Help students, as needed, with academics, social opportunities and/or behavior regulation within the classroom and other school settings.
- Be a role model: Show professionalism and positive behavior.
- Communicate with teacher: Communicate with the classroom teacher regarding student progress, needs and/or successes on a regular basis and in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Salem High School 12th grader or Post High scholar in good standing.
- Communication skills.
- Ability to travel between buildings.
- Dependable, responsible, and committed to the role.
- Flexible with your routine to cover and assist, as needed.
- Respects and maintains confidentiality of the students in the classroom.
