What You’ll Do:

As an MTEL tutor for teachers in the Salem Public Schools, you will be responsible for providing tutoring  to classes and/or groups of adults online and in person in the Salem Public Schools. Your goal will be to help teachers develop the skills necessary to succeed in passing the ESL MTEL exams.

 

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching and Learning 
  • Plan and deliver engaging and challenging lessons and assignments that lead to adult learners growing in their conceptual understanding of skills in the areas of language, pedagogy, and second language acquisition.
  • Support adult learners to develop the skills needed to succeed on the ESL MTEL.  
  • Review adult learner’s coursework and give timely and effective feedback to promote their development of competencies and skills needed to succeed on the ESL MTEL. 
  • Provide necessary support for learning and opportunities for collaboration among adult learners.
  • Tutor adult learners after school on dates to be arranged in conjunction with the Director of Multilingual Learner Education.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Required Massachusetts certification as an ESL Teacher
  • SEI Endorsement Required
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
  • Able and willing to work in-person, remotely, or in a hybrid learning environment, if needed
  • Second Language (Spanish) proficiency a plus
  • Bilingual, candidates of color are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
