Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaches Spanish to all students in grades 7 and 8 as part of the core curriculum with a proficiency target of novice-high
  • Serve as the founding teacher for a new pathway to the Seal of Biliteracy at Salem High School
  • Plans and executes units, lessons, and performance tasks using a proficiency focused performance based model. 
  • Regularly implements ACTFL core instructional practices. 
  • Designs and implements instruction that is interactive and incorporates speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish
  • Regularly assesses students' language proficiency and uses that data to plan instruction.
  • Promotes the learning and growth of all students through instructional practices that establish high expectations, create a safe and effective classroom environment, and demonstrate cultural proficiency.
  • Promotes the learning and growth of all students through effective partnerships with families and caregivers.
  • Collaborates effectively with teaching colleagues.
  • Works under the general supervision of the building principal and or other designated administrator, manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement
  • Additional duties may be assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Spanish (5-8) Education required.
  • Strong desire to work within an urban educational program
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
